Widespread Looting and Destruction Reported in Chicago Overnight

I woke up this morning to the news that there was widespread looting and destruction reported in Chicago overnight over a police-involved shooting that, according to early reports, appears to be justified. Inaccurate information, once again, was spreading on social media that it was a child that was shot and wounded by the police. Reports are that it was a suspect in his late teens or early 20s who fired on the police during a foot chase.

Given the level of civil unrest and anarchy in Chicago overnight, I am surprised that there was not a single mention of this story on the home page of the New York Times and Washington Post websites. At least not as of 7 a.m. EDT.

Here is what the Chicago Tribune is reporting this morning on this story:

There is a deficit in rational thinking that is making our problems in this country deep and severe. I won’t get into the politics of it all in this post, but most rational, logical thinking people know how we got here and which political party is making it worse. It’s disturbing when people take to the streets and cause destruction to their own communities based on inaccurate information on social media and biased, agenda-driven “reporting” from much of the mainstream media.
